We started the next day at Dettifoss, touted as the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Not only was its average water flow (aka volume discharge) unparalleled, a very pretty rainbow found it's way to the base of the falls. Leaving Dettifoss we started to make our way back to the ring road, and enjoy the perks of concrete and higher speeds. The far right image below is what co-workers would tend to receive if they asked about the trip.
In Husavik we hoped to get our first glimpse of puffins, but Sara had to settle with a gas station pup instead.  We didn't spend much time here, really just keeping the car and our bodies fueled up before bopping on to Goðafoss.
Another powerful waterfall, Goðafoss (or waterfall of the gods) had nearly tropic looking water compared to everything else we had seen. This is also where I think we started to tire slightly of the following: show up to a large parking lot, dodge a tour bus, hurdle the 70 people that came flooding out of said tour bus, and follow the paved path to a lookout point 200 feet away. The only thing (in addition to the fosses) that we didn't get tired of was how consistently rude people could be when wanting to capture the perfect photo. Maybe we're part of the problem....
Akureyri was wonderful however, more pavement for sure, but what can you expect from a city? Ölstofa Akureyrar provided some excellent options for local beer, at a slightly better price then paying $19 for a Gull in Reykjavik. I mean, Gull is pretty great, but yea. We also had the opportunity to witness the incredibly underwhelming show of some guy riding his dirt bike down the steep church stairs. The potential was there, execution was just slightly off. Speaking of slightly off, don't go near the trolls. It's not worth it.
